Life in Russia: The real story

Subbotnik

The Trashtag challenge brings people together to clean up trash, which is something that everyone can support. It’s encouraging to see people looking up from their phones and getting things done, but the Russians have been doing the same thing for nearly a century, and they didn’t need a clever hashtag to do it. Every year on Subbotnik, residents from all over the world get together to clean up their cities as a community. They collect rubbish, repair broken items, and manage to recycle. The custom began shortly after the Russian Revolution and has continued ever since.
